A new take on Doggy daycare!

Confidence building over Chaos!

We believe every dog deserves to feel safe, confident, and understood! That is why our philosophy centers around emotional wellbeing, enrichment and creating positive experiences tailored to each individual dog. Rather than focusing on constant stimulation or high volume play, we prioritize balance, structure, and healthy social experiences that help dogs build confidence over time. We will ALWAYS stand for quality care over quantity!

For some dogs, the right environment can make all the difference.

Whether your dog is outgoing, shy, sensitive, or still learning how to navigate the world around them, our goal is to provide a space where they can feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for.

Because a happy dog is not just exhausted...
they are emotionally fulfilled, confident, and able to truly relax.

Signs Your Dog May Be Overwhelmed in Traditional Daycare

  • Excessive sleeping after daycare
  • Increased anxiety at home
  • Reactivity worsening
  • Clinginess
  • Stress panting
  • Withdrawal/shutdown behavior
  • Rough play escalating
  • Digestive upset
  • Increased barking
  • Difficulty settling

Many owners mistake these overstimulation signals as healthy exhaustion.

Why Overstimulation Happens

For many dogs, traditional daycare environments can be emotionally overwhelming. While some dogs thrive in large/ fast paced groups, most struggle with the constant stimulation, noise, movement, and social pressure that comes with all day group play.

Dogs experience the world very differently than humans do. Hours of nonstop excitement, barking, and interaction can lead to elevated stress hormones like cortisol, making it difficult for some dogs to truly relax and decompress.

In many cases, what looks like a dog being “tired out” may actually be emotional exhaustion or overstimulation. Some dogs may appear overly excited in daycare settings while internally feeling stressed, anxious, or unable to settle.

Just like people, every dog has unique emotional and social needs. Some thrive in busy environments, while others benefit from a calmer and more structured approach that balances enrichment, rest, confidence building, and positive social experiences.

At Barks & Recreation, we believe daycare should support a dog’s emotional wellbeing , not simply exhaust them physically.

Dogs Who Often Need a Different Approach

Some dogs naturally benefit from a calmer and  more personalized daycare environment. This does not mean there is anything “wrong” with them, it simply means their emotional needs may differ from dogs who enjoy highly social, high energy settings.

Dogs who often thrive in lower stress enrichment environments include:

  • Shy or sensitive dogs
  • Anxious or easily overwhelmed dogs
  • Adolescent dogs still developing confidence and social skills
  • Rescue dogs adjusting to new environments
  • Dogs who become overstimulated in large groups
  • Dogs who struggle to settle or decompress after daycare
  • Dogs who prefer smaller social circles
  • Dogs who benefit from mental enrichment and structure rather than nonstop play

Many owners are surprised to learn that calmer, more intentional daycare experiences can actually help improve confidence, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing over time.

Our goal is to create an environment where dogs feel safe, understood, and emotionally supported while still having fun, staying active, and building positive experiences.

What we do differently

At Barks & Recreation, our approach focuses on enrichment, emotional wellness, and relationship based care rather than simply managing large groups of dogs.

We intentionally incorporate:

  • Structured enrichment activities
  • Rest and decompression periods
  • Confidence building experiences
  • Intentional socialization
  • Calm interactions and positive reinforcement
  • Individualized attention based on each dog’s personality and comfort level

We believe dogs deserve more than chaotic group play and constant stimulation. Our goal is to provide a balanced environment where dogs can feel fulfilled both mentally and emotionally.

Because daycare should not just be about keeping dogs busy,  it should help them thrive.
